Pilot testing a fair recruitment model in the apparel industry

The ILO’s FAIR project is currently implementing in collaboration with BWJ a pilot intervention model to eliminate deceptive and coercive recruitment practices in the apparel industry in Jordan and thus reduce the vulnerability of migrant workers to forced labour. The aim of this pilot intervention is to demonstrate that fair recruitment is possible and that it benefits both employers and workers. A one-day workshop will be organized on April 11th, 2016 in Amman to present the objectives and expected results of this pilot programme.

Mission on the ILO Project “Integrated Programme on Fair Recruitment (FAIR)”

Ms Helene Harroff-Tavel, Ms Alix Nasri and Mr Guy Tchami from ILO Geneva will conduct a mission in the Philippines to meet with relevant stakeholders for ILO’s new labour migration project. The six-day mission will include consultations with Philippine government agencies, trade unions, employers organizations, civil society organizations, cooperatives and media agencies in order to introduce the project’s Philippine components and collect inputs regarding the project design and strategy.

Training of labour inspectors on forced labour and human trafficking

As part of its campaign to strengthen labour standards in Qualified Industrialised Zones (QIZ), the Jordanian Ministry of Labour appointed 30 new labour inspectors in 2008. The workshop was organised by the Ministry of Labour, in cooperation with the ILO, to sensitize these newly appointed labour inspectors on issues of trafficking and forced labour.
