Identifying and investigating cases of forced labour and trafficking
22 - 26 May 2017
This course will train participants to better identify and investigate cases of forced labour, including trafficking in human beings for labour exploitation. It will introduce forced labour indicators and will address different stages of the investigative process, such as victim interviews and gathering evidence, with a focus on the pre-trial phase. Participants will be introduced to the new Protocol and Recommendation supplementing the Forced Labour Convention, 1930 (No.29) including provisions pertaining to the protection of workers from abuses arising during the recruitment process.

Labour Migration Academy (trilingual course)

This global training activity on international labour migration reviews and analyses key issues, strategies, policies and tools for better governance of international labour migration, linking migration and development, and promoting the protection of rights of migrant workers and their families.. In addition to plenary sessions the academy offers the possibility to participants through elective courses to analyze as well in-depth key topics related to labour migration. The academy will therefore give a broad overview of the different challenges and opportunities related to international labour migration, but it will also give the opportunity to participants to tailor-made the reinforcement of their capacities according to their specific needs.

Workshop on the Fair Recruitment Initiative

On the 23rd and 24th of April 2014, the ILO Special Action Programme to combat Forced Labour (SAPFL), in collaboration with the ILO’s Labour Migration Branch (MIGRANT) and the International Training Centre in Turin, hosted a first consultative workshop on the ILO Fair Recruitment Initiative (FRI) under the auspices of the Global Migration Group (GMG), which is currently chaired by ILO.

Workshop on the Fair Recruitment Initiative
23 - 24 April 2014
This workshop aims at reviewing and discussing recent evidence on the nexus between recruitment, labour migration and human trafficking. The overall framework and objectives of the “Fair Recruitment Initiative” will also be discussed, including benchmarks for Fair Recruitment based on International Standards and the development of policy guidance. The meeting is held under the auspices of the Taskforce on Migration and Decent Work of the Global Migration Group (GMG), which is chaired by the ILO in 2014.

Action to combat trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labour exploitation: Identification and protection of victims

The conference will provide an overview of the results of the “FREED” Project, present the studies on trafficking for labour exploitation and forced labour in Italy and Poland, present the national versions of the handbook for labour inspectors and discuss their application on actual cases, discuss transnational cooperation mechanisms between labour inspectors and law enforcement agencies in source and destination countries, and share ideas about future steps towards an effective response to forced labour and labour exploitation.
