    Gender Mainstreaming at the Labour Market of Ukraine and Role of the Public Employment Service

    This report is the outcome of the project on Gender Mainstreaming in the Public Employment Service of Ukraine (PES), initiated by the ILO Decent Work Technical Support Team and Country Office for Central and Eastern Europe in Budapest within the large-scale project "Gender Equality in the World of Work," implemented in Ukraine by the ILO and co-funded by the European Union and the ILO. The main objective of the project is to develop an action plan for the Public Employment Service (PES) of Ukraine to improve its capacity in developing and implementing gender-sensitive labour market policies, programmes and services. The project also aims to ensure that the PES proactively encourages equal outcomes regarding male and female employment and vertical and horizontal gender desegregation of the labour market.

    Strategy evaluation: Performance and progress in gender mainstreaming through the ILO Action Plan for Gender Equality 2008-09

    This evaluation analyses performance and progress in gender mainstreaming, using the Action Plan as a basis for measuring results and gaps. The main purposes of the evaluation are: internal management learning and decision making; as a reference for drafting the Director-General’s report on results of the Action Plan, to be presented to the Governing Body in March 2010; for advising on the drafting of the next Action Plan; and for sharing lessons learned and good practices with other UN system entities.

    December 3 marks International Day for Persons with Disabilities. This year, the theme focuses on the empowerment of persons with disabilities and their communities. Emanuela Pozzan, ILO Subregional Coordinator on Disability for East Asia, looks at a Vietnamese woman whose work in this area has received international recognition.

    Assessing and Addressing the Effects of Trade on Employment (ETE)

    The project aims to support the analysis and formulation of effective and coherent trade and labour market policies that address the adjustment challenges that workers and employers face and expand opportunities for the creation of decent employment in developing countries. The first phase (2009-2013) has been completed and the second phase (ETE II) is currently underway.

The introduction sets out the context of the national legal systems of the countries concerned and gives an overview of the types of cases selected. The case summaries highlight how the courts have relied on Convention No. 169. The Casebook will be useful for judges, lawyers and legal educators, and a source of information for indigenous and tribal peoples and their organizations in the context of advocacy and litigation. The publication is also intended as a way to share the experiences of Latin America with interested stakeholders in other regions.

    Electronic Newsletter PRO169 - October 2009

    This is the second edition of PRO 169's electronic newsletter. Since the first edition in June 2009, there have been a number of developments within the programme including the initiation of activities in Central America and Bangladesh; organisation of various seminars and training programmes at Headquarters; new publications and further expansion of existing websites. PRO 169 has also undergone an external evaluation by three indigenous experts. In collaboration with the OHCHR, PRO 169 organised the celebration of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples in Geneva.
