Spotlight on Gender-sensitive Reporting in Journalism
The joint ILO-UN Women Safe and Fair Programme, as part of the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative, will host a webinar to discuss and share good practices for responsible and ethical reporting of labour migration and gender-based violence and discrimination against migrant workers among media professionals. Safe and Fair will also launch the Media-friendly glossary on migration: Women migrant workers and ending violence against women edition. The glossary serves a guide for journalists, reporters, researchers and trainers who conduct trainings or write about women’s labour migration, and who write about violence against women in the context of migration.

COVID-19 and women migrant workers in ASEAN

This brief explores the multi-dimensional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women migrant workers in and from the ASEAN region. While women migrant workers in the ASEAN region strive to protect their livelihoods and their health, COVID-19 has presented them with a health crisis, compounded by detrimental impacts on freedom from violence and harassment, employment, income, social protection, access to services, and access to justice. This brief outlines the critical programmatic and policy responses needed. ILO-UN Women Safe and Fair Programme, as part of the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative, is committed to ensuring women migrant workers’ rights are protected and they receive support when and where they need it.

Promoting career pathways for women in the Myanmar’s garment industry

The garment industry is an important engine for Myanmar’s sustainable development. The industry creates formal employment for almost half million people, more than 90% of whom are young women who migrated from their remote native states and regions with the explicit purpose of working in a garment factory. In 2017, the industry generated almost $3 billion in export revenues and is a critical driver of economic growth.
