1st Knowledge Sharing Workshop of all Africa Labour-based Training Institutions
The Knowledge Sharing Workshop brings together trainers from 18 National Educational and EIIP Training Institutions in Africa. The workshop mainly aims to provide a forum for exchanging of teaching/training experiences among the participating institutions and creating learning opportunities between them with regards to their operational setup, and enhancing labour-based (LB) training skills, as well as contributing to joint research and development activities.

Release of Training Manuals for Barefoot Technicians (MGNREGA) and for Contractors & Field Engineers (PMGSY) and Impact Assessment Study of PMGSY Roads
Ms. Sandra Polaski, ILO Deputy Director General (Policy) inaugurated the release of the Training Manuals for Barefoot Technicians (MGNREGA) and for the Contractors and Field Engineers under the PMGSY Project. Ms. Polaski also released the “Impact Assessment Study of Improved Rural Road Maintenance System under the PMGSY”. Ms. Polaski highlighted the need for India to adapt its labour policies as its economy transitions from agriculture to manufacturing in order to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.

The theme of this edition is: "Labor based approaches as solutions for sustainable development challenges in the context of decentralization" Institutional and operational issues of employment intensive approaches will be addressed under the angle of strategies and resources for sustainable funding of labor-based investments targeting local communities, in terms of rational use of natural resources and local materials for labor-based works, development of alternative construction technologies, creation of green jobs and environmentally friendly economic growth, training opportunities to improve youth employability, resilience and social welfare of local communities
