Decent Work for Domestic Workers begins at home

We believe that rights of domestic workers begin at home, and that households should establish respectful relationships with those who care for their homes and families.

Indeed, domestic workers make a vital contribution to the smooth functioning of our households. They may clean, cook, iron our clothes, look after our garden or care for our children or our elderly parents.

Making decent work a reality for domestic workers requires each one of us to play our part.
Everyone can start taking one step at a time:
  • Treat domestic workers with respect
  • Recognise their work
  • Pay a decent wage
  • Guarantee sufficient rest
  • Provide decent living conditions

ILO officials around the world believe that Decent Work for Domestic Workers begins in their homes!
