This brief is part of the Transforming our world: A cooperative 2030 series produced by the Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC). Through a series of 17 briefs, one for each Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), COPAC hopes to raise awareness about the significant contributions of cooperative enterprises towards achieving the 2030 Agenda in a sustainable, inclusive and responsible way, and encourage continued support for their efforts. Ethiopia: Women with disabilities harness the power of entrepreneurship

Despite the role of empowerment in improving the livelihoods of poor people, there is still a huge gap between the theory of empowerment and its practice. To help bridge this gap and provide guidance, this story describes real-life empowerment made possible by the ILO-Irish Aid Partnership Programme on disability which set out to provide and promote entrepreneurship training for disabled women in Ethiopia, in partnership with local organizations. It is part of a series of stories of empowerment produced by the Development Co-operation Directorate - Development Assistance Committee (DAC) Network on Poverty Reduction of the OECD.

Moving towards disability inclusion

ILO-Irish Aid supported projects on disability (INCLUDE and PEPDEL) operating in Cambodia, Ethiopia, Thailand and Viet Nam provide the basis for the case stories, examples of good practice and lessons learned presented in this publication.
