The virtual event on “Cooperatives: A resilient model in time of crisis and beyond” took place on July 16, 2020.

The event aimed to highlight how cooperatives contribute toward building resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the reconstruction beyond. It highlighted the role cooperatives play in re-activating local economies, providing assistance to the most vulnerable and advocating for their members with public and private actors.

Ms. Esim’s video message focused on the challenges that young people face in the world of work today. She noted that these challenges were further exacerbated with the COVID-19 pandemic. She highlighted how young people have contributed to the emergence of a new generation of cooperatives, with promising results. These include worker, social, and consumer cooperatives in renewable energy, recycling, care provision, education and platform economy among others.
