This series of photos feature the practical contribution of cooperatives and the wider SSE in Africa in tackling a broad range of issues from food security and sustainable agriculture, to climate change adaptation, sustainable finance and women’s empowerment.
The agricultural cooperative Hebron Mango Tree Owner Primary Cooperative in South Africa has conscientized officials of Madibeng and Rustenburg Municipalities by holding Climate Change and National Adaptation Strategy workshops and conducting an analysis of alternative means of livelihood for different communities.

A widow mother runs her own dairy farm with her daughter. She is also a study circle leader. They are members of The Dairy Association of Zambia (DAZ) that is one of We Effect's partner organizations in the country. The members of the organization are dairy farmers and others involved in the dairy industry. DAZ works to promote and protect the interests of its members and to help the Zambian dairy industry to grow and achieve national development goals. DAZ applies We Effect's study circle method in its work with the farmers.

Cooperatives are fundamental to economic empowerment in rural areas and small villages. With ILO training and financial support, micro-insurance has been provided for 10,000 cooperative members, mainly women. In Ethiopia, around 6,300 women and seven women’s cooperatives have benefited from credit and business management training.
