  1. Start.COOP - a participatory tool for launching a cooperative

    Start.COOP has been developed as a low-cost, easy to use training tool for those interested in starting and launching a cooperative in a participatory manner. It draws on technical content from existing materials in different ILO cooperative training tools and peer-to-peer, activity based learning methodology from the ILO’s Community-Based Enterprise Development (C-BED) programme.

    As principle-driven and member-owned businesses, financial cooperatives are among the key institutions to advance financial inclusion particularly in rural areas and for those who face challenges in accessing these services through other types of financial service providers. ILO, ITC-ILO and FAO held a workshop to test and validate a training programme for financial cooperatives apex organizations.

  4. Cooperating out of child labour in Malawi

    In Malawi child labour is a persistent challenge. The recent estimates show that more than 2.1 million children, or about 38 per cent of Malawian children, continue to be involved in child labour. Most of these children are employed in the agricultural sector, and many are in hazardous forms of child labour. As part of a wider approach, the ILO is looking into the ways in which cooperatives and producer organizations can tackle the issue of child labour in agriculture.

  5. Looking at the past and the future of My.Coop

    On 13 October, 2017 Agriterra, ITC-ILO and the Cooperatives Unit of the ILO met in Geneva to discuss the findings of a stocktaking study on My.Coop training package for agricultural cooperatives, with a view to enable more cooperatives to benefit from its use.
