The ILO has joined forces with other members of the Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC) to improve statistics on cooperatives. They are working towards developing guidelines on the measurement of cooperatives to be presented at the 20th International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS) in October 2018. ILO COOP interviewed Mr Bruno Roelants, COPAC Board Member as Director-General of the International Alliance of Cooperatives (ICA), on statistics of cooperatives.

Countries in Focus on Statistics of Cooperatives is a series produced by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC) as part of a larger initiative to increase understanding of the ways in which countries around the world are producing and using statistics on cooperatives. Currently reliable and comparable statistics on cooperatives are missing in most countries of the world. These statistics are essential to measure the impact of cooperatives on their members and the economy as a whole.

Experts meet to discuss guidelines for statistics on cooperatives

The Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC) Technical Working Group (TWG) on Statistics of Cooperatives held its second meeting on April 4, 2018 at the ILO offices in Geneva. Established in 2016, the TWG brings together representatives of cooperative movement, NSOs, policy makers, and researchers working together toward obtaining more comprehensive and internationally comparable statistics on cooperatives.

Advancing guidelines for statistics on cooperatives
