The research is part of the ILO project “Strengthening Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) Policy in Asia,” implemented in partnership with the Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency (KoSEA) and supported by the Korean Ministry of Employment and Labour (MOEL).

  2. 12th Academy on Social and Solidarity Economy - Plenary Session 2: SSE main trends in the different regions and recent development on SSE policies

    The second plenary session of the Academy took place on November 18th. It focused on the analysis of the main trends and recent developments of SSE policies in select regions of the world. The panel discussants were Mr. José Luis Coraggio (Latin America), Ms. Estelle Bacconier (EC, Europe) and Mr. Ben Quinones (ASEC-RIPESS, Asia). The participation of Mr. Sabelo Mbokazi (AUC, Africa) was cancelled shortly before the panel. TMs. Deolinda Maria Moreira Aparício Meira (CIRIEC-Portugal delegate in the International Scientific Council of CIRIEC) moderated the panel. Mr. Martin Gasser (ITC-ILO) facilitated and Mr. Roberto Di Meglio (ILO) closed the panel.

    On November 19, 2021, SEWA Cooperative Federation, WIEGO and International Cooperative Alliance - Asia-and-Pacific (ICA-AP) organized a global webinar titled ‘Rebuilding an Inclusive World in the Wake of the Pandemic: Women Cooperatives Lead the Way’ on the occasion of the International Cooperative Week.

  4. Financial mechanisms for innovative social and solidarity economy ecosystems: The case of the Republic of Korea

    This paper is organised into four sections. The first section describes the social and solidarity economy (SSE) ecosystem in the Republic of Korea, with a focus on its roots and drivers, the main actors and stakeholders involved and the policy framework that regulates it. The second section examines the main financial mechanisms available to SSE organisations in the country, analysing their features and providing specific examples. The third section looks at the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, both in terms of its effects on SSE organisations and the potential role of the SSE in recovery efforts.
