ILO COOP 100 Webinar II - Advancing gender equality though cooperatives

Four cooperative practitioners reflected on the current situation of gender equality within the cooperative movement, the role cooperatives can play, and the challenges they face in advancing gender equality. Their presentations highlighted the implications of COVID-19 on women in cooperatives and emerging responses. Over 160 people from around the world participated in the webinar.

Indian women co-operators are being trained to roll out Think.Coop

The Indian Academy of Self-Employed Women (IASEW) conducted a training of facilitators on the ILO’s Think.Coop training tool, with a view to further strengthening women cooperative entrepreneurs in the rural and informal economy in India.

SADA Women’s Cooperative in Turkey was selected as one of the 10 projects for scaling up by the Paris Peace Forum
28 November 2019
The cooperative was formed by women from host and refugee communities to undertake collective income generation activities with the support of the ILO. The cooperative was selected as one of ten projects to be scaled up and mentored by the Paris Peace Forum in the coming year.

Waste pickers’ cooperatives and social and solidarity economy organizations

Waste pickers make significant contributions to public health, sanitation, and the environment by promoting resource circulation and reducing the amount of landfill. However, they are often not legally recognized as workers and suffer from poor working conditions and lack of social protection. This brief highlights the role of waste pickers' cooperatives and other social and solidarity economy organizations (SSEOs) in integrating and formalizing the work of waste pickers in the recycling value chain and improving their working conditions.
