The project Promoting the Right to Freedom of Association and the Right to Collective Bargaining – Phase II works with the tripartite constituents in twelve target countries (Bolivia, Brazil, China, Jordan, Kenya, Malawi, Niger, the Philippines, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Togo & Zambia) and at the global level to advance the realization of the ILO’s fundamental principles and rights of freedom of association and collective bargaining.

The development objective of the Labour Standards in Global Supply Chains (LSGSC) project is to improve the lives of workers and increase decent work opportunities in global supply chains (GSCs) in the garment sector, starting with the project’s beneficiary countries: Cambodia, Indonesia and Pakistan. The project’s programme of action includes interventions at factory-level and country-level as well as global and Asia regional components.

The 322nd session of ILO’s Governing Body has just ended in Geneva. In this interview, Luc Cortebeeck, Chair of the Workers’ Group, sets out the worker delegates’ position on the right to strike. He also discusses the role of trade unions in achieving the objectives of the post-2015 sustainable development agenda, and what ILO can do in the face of the Ebola epidemic that has killed more than 5,000 people in West Africa.
