Mozambique’s National Conference on Combatting the Worst Forms of Child Labour

On Friday 22 April, Mozambique held its National Conference on Combatting the Worst Forms of Child Labour in Chimoio, Manica Province. Several high-level representatives took part in this conference, including the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Margarida Adamugy Talapa, the Governor of Manica, Francisca Domingos Tomás, and the Vice Minister of Gender, Child and Social Action, Lucas Mangrasse.

Child labour in Myanmar’s jade mines is a deadly gamble

More than 160 million children are still in child labour around the world. With the COVID-19 pandemic threatening to reverse years of progress, the 5th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour will be taking place in Durban, South Africa, 15–20 May. More than 4,000 delegates will discuss good practices, identify gaps and the urgent measures that are needed to help children like Min Min, who works in Myanmar’s jade mines.

ILO Chief Technical Advisor, Olga Orozco, speaks from Peru about the Responsible Business Conduct project in Latin America and the Caribbean (RBCLAC), which aims to promote smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in the EU and in Latin America and the Caribbean. Funded by the European Union and implemented in collaboration with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Office of the High Commissioner of The United Nations for Human Rights (OHCHR), the project will run until the end of 2022.
