ILO releases report on the High Level Mission to Greece of September 2011

GENEVA (ILO News) – The Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations concluded its 82nd Session on 9 December 2011. The Committee had the occasion to consider the report of the High-level Mission to Greece with respect to the application of a number of Conventions. The Committee welcomed the detailed and informative report which enabled it to review the overall very complex situation in Greece with a broad and in-depth understanding of the issues in its mandate. The Committee of Expert’s report will be available in February 2012. In the meantime, the High-level Mission report may be accessed on the following link (see full report).

The High-level Mission report underlines the important role that can be played by the ILO to support the Government and the social partners in the development and implementation of relevant and appropriate reforms to the labour market and its institutions in conformity with ratified International Labour Standards. It further emphasizes the need for rapid support to bolster the labour relations system, promote collective bargaining and create a meaningful space for social dialogue which builds upon the traditions of the social partners and is aimed at finding mutually reinforcing solutions to the new challenges they face. The ILO stands ready to assist the Government of Greece in all the areas within its mandate.
