Youth unemployment rate estimates and projections by region, 2000-2016

Projections from the ILO's "Global Employment Trends for Youth" report show 12.7 per cent of the global youth labour force will be unemployed this year, unchanged from the peak of the crisis in 2009, and slightly up from last year’s 12.6 per cent. Even though some regions have recovered from the economic crisis, or at least mitigated its impact, all face major youth employment challenges.

The charts depict the evolution of global and regional unemployment rates between 2000 and 2010 as well as unemployment rate predictions for 2011 to 2016. Predictions are presented in the form of a fan chart, indicating the probability of various outcomes for the unemployment rates. Each shade of the fans corresponds to one-third of the confidence interval around the central projection.
