Second Meeting of the Preparatory Tripartite MLC, 2006, Committee
The mandate of the Preparatory Committee is to “keep under review the preparations by Members for implementing the MLC, 2006, identify any common issues and prepare the work for the future Special Tripartite Committee on any questions that might need to be dealt with as a matter of urgency after entry into force of the Convention, including the rules of procedure of the Committee”.

Preparatory Tripartite MLC, 2006, Committee
The Governing Body of the ILO, at its 306th Session, noting that the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006) is expected to come into force during 2011, decided to establish a Preparatory Tripartite MLC, 2006, Committee (“the Preparatory Committee”), modelled on the future “Special Tripartite Committee” to be established under Article XIII of the MLC, 2006, when it comes into force. Since the MLC, 2006, is not yet in force, the Preparatory Committee comprises representatives of the governments of any interested member States and ten representatives nominated respectively by the International Shipping Federation (ISF) and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF).

Tripartite Expert Meeting to Develop Guidelines for Port State Control Officers Carrying out Inspections under the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006
The 94th (Maritime) Session of the International Labour Conference, which adopted the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, also adopted a number of resolutions. Resolution IV, concerning the development of guidelines for port State control, requested that the Director-General of the ILO convene a tripartite expert meeting to develop suitable guidance for port State control officers.

Tripartite Expert Meeting to Adopt Guidelines on Flag State Inspections under the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006
The 94th (Maritime) Session of the International Labour Conference, which adopted the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, also adopted a number of resolutions. Resolution XIII, concerning the development of guidelines for flag State inspection, requested that the Director-General convene a tripartite expert meeting to develop suitable guidance for flag State inspection.

The Session has taken as its aim the unprecedented task of adopting a comprehensive international labour Convention to consolidate almost all ILO maritime labour Conventions and Recommendations currently in force - over 60 texts and set out the conditions for decent work in the increasingly globalized maritime sector.
