  3. ILO training workshop tackles child labour in agriculture in Lebanon

    Hosting over 1.1 million registered Syrian refugees, Lebanon has seen a huge rise in child labour in recent years, much of it under hazardous conditions in the agricultural sector. An ILO “training of trainers” workshop took child labour practitioners to the heart of the fertile Beqaa Valley, to witness first-hand some of the hazards of child labour in agriculture.

  4. Ergonomic checkpoints in agriculture (second edition) now also available in Chinese

    Approximately 100 of the illustrations accompanying the checkpoints were improved and revised in this second edition of the manual. The first edition was published in 2012 and it was well received by the ergonomic and occupational safety and health (OSH) practitioners and professional bodies around the world. Certain users recommended improving the illustrations so that they reflect the best available ergonomic techniques and practice globally, rather than in a few project countries. ILO specialists and external experts reviewed and commented on the illustrations.

    Asia-Pacific on the road to middle-class employment

    A recent ILO study shows that despite robust economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region, millions of people are still living under or just above the poverty line.

    FAO has published the first global study on child labour issues related to livestock. The study has benefited from ILO-IPEC inputs.

  9. FAO and ILO publish a good practice guide on child labour in fisheries and aquaculture

    To increase the knowledge base on child labour in fisheries and aquaculture and to provide assistance for policy makers and government authorities to combat this difficult issue, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and ILO have developed a preliminary version of the good practice guide: “FAO-ILO good practice guide for addressing child labour in fisheries and aquaculture: policy and practice”. All stakeholders are encouraged to use the guidance document and to provide comments and inputs to improve it before it is published and disseminated in July 2012.

    A new United Nations interagency report on the gender dimension of agricultural work says women still benefit less than men from rural employment and face new challenges due to the current economic and food crises.
