  2. Paving the road to financial inclusion for rural workers in Nepal

    In remote areas of Nepal, rural communities, and especially the most disadvantaged and marginalized groups, do not have access to formal financial services. However, the Strengthening National Rural Transport Programme took up the challenge of generating access to finance and improved livelihood opportunities for them, and succeeded in collaboration with MEGA Bank, one of Nepal’s largest commercial banks.

    An ILO capacity building training programme for rural women in Basra seeks to foster skills, entrepreneurship and decent employment in the field of agriculture, funded by the European Union.

    A small dam brings a village back to life

    Saida Zouaoui, who lives in Tunisia, has always wanted to carry on her father's legacy, building dams in the Berber tradition. With courage and determination, she convinced the local authorities to support her idea. Today, the municipality of Galâa-Maaden-Forgsan has a dam that benefits both farmers and the local community.

    A refugee mother determined to provide despite COVID-19

    Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, workers' hours were reduced at the farm in Jordan where Syrian refugee Fatima Hussein Al Ahmad lives and works. Resourceful and determined, she found alternative ways to earn money to buy milk for her baby daughter. Read her story on our new Voices multimedia platform.

  7. New partnership between the Government of Norway and the International Labour Organization to improve working conditions in Malawi’s tobacco sector

    This new project is well aligned to the strategic priorities of development cooperation between Norway and Malawi, which include a focus on the agriculture sector and respect for human rights, as well as with Norway’s global development cooperation priorities regarding the elimination of modern slavery and child labour.
