Global Refugee Forum: 15by30 Refugee Higher Education and Self-Reliance Pledge Webinar on Technical and Vocational Education and Training
The International Labour Organisation (ILO), Finn Church Aid (FCA), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) jointly hosted a webinar on the important role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the 15by30 Global Pledge for Refugee Higher Education and Self-Reliance. TVET is an essential pillar of the 15by30 roadmap, supporting skills development and employment readiness for thousands of refugee youth.
In the webinar, we explored existing pledges and present options and priority areas for new TVET pledges to expand and enhance Technical and Vocational Education and Training for refugees and host community learners. We want to continue to share experiences, learn from each other and join forces to realize our common goal in supporting refugees and host communities.
Speakers include:
Governments with TVET pledges
UNHCR, ILO, FCA
Education Above All
Complementary Pathways: Uganda/Canada
Background
The Global Refugee Forum (GRF) 2023 will take place between 13 - 15 December in Geneva, with advance events on 12 December. The Forum will provide an opportunity to build on the significant progress made by governments and other stakeholders towards the implementation of pledges and initiatives announced since the first GRF in 2019.
In 2019, 40 pledges - or 18% - of all education-focused pledges, were on TVET. Pledges were submitted by host countries, partner organisations and foundations. TVET pledges prioritized improving quality, promoting smooth transitions to employment and self-reliance outcomes, among other objectives. Together we can ensure that the 2023 GRF results in more inclusive TVET opportunities for refugees and host community learners.
