National Community Sharing Workshop on Community-Based Tourism (CBT)

The workshop focused on initiatives and models that benefit the local communities and create ‘win-win situation’ with businesses in the Central Viet Nam .

Background

In the project, in order to reduce poverty and narrow the income gap from tourism between the rural and urban areas, several new rural and ethnic villages in both provinces have been supported to develop community tourism initiatives, including Thanh Toan village (in Hue), Triem Tay, Tra Nhieu and Cam Thanh villages (in Quang Nam) whilst the further technical support has also been provided to consolidate the community management structure in Dhroong and Bhoong in the western areas. In addition, four districts in the two provinces Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam signed a MoU to promote tourism development along Ho Chi Minh Trail. Therefore, there is a strong need for these communities to get together, share and learn from the experiences in CBT development and management from other CBT villages in Viet Nam, especially in the North. A series of community sharing workshops organised from 19-23 March 2016 will help build capacity for all the CBT villages from learning successes and failures from each other.

Objectives

  • Share experiences and lessons learnt of all successful CBTs developped in Northern and Central Viet Nam in: product and service development; organisations of providing services; partnership with businesses and using the Community Development Fund.
  • Build capacity for all CBT villages by experencie from others.
  • To create a CBT forum to connect among the CBT villages from Central and Northern area of Vietnam
