GLOBAL EMPLOYMENT TRENDS 2004

This report focuses on labour market trends and underlines the main employment challenges – both at
the global level and in eight regions of the world. The report draws attention to key policy challenges
posed by the identified trends, but it does not aim at presenting comprehensive policy recommendations to overcome these challenges. Every attempt has been made to incorporate the latest available information in an ongoing process; the ILO will update and revise both global and regional estimates as information becomes available from national and international sources. Emphasis has
been laid on the growth of employment and unemployment, youth unemployment and the employment of women. Such developments are profiled in the light of economic and general labour market conditions in a worldwide context.
