    UN Women Executive Director, Michelle Bachelet, addressed the Committee on Domestic Workers during the 100th International Labour Conference, saying that the issue of decent work for domestic workers - most of whom are women - was of particular concern to UN Women and its priority of promoting women's economic empowerment. She pledged her agency's support for the ILO towards creating an international standard for domestic workers.

    ILO and UN Women Sign Memorandum of Understanding

    ILO Director-General Juan Somavia and UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, Michelle Bachelet, addressed conference delegates after signing a memorandum of understanding at the 100th International Labour Conference. The agreement will take the two agencies' strong working relationship to a "new and better level", said Juan Somavia, and will cover areas including gender equality, the elimination of gender discrimination in the workplace, domestic workers and social protection floors.

The International Labour Organization's current activities in Myanmar include efforts to ensure the elimination of forced labour.

    Video Highlights of World Day Against Child Labour ILO Events

    A press conference launching the ILO report: "Children in hazardous work - What We know, What we need to do" marked World Day Against Child Labour. Speaking at the press conference were Constance Thomas, Director the ILO's International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) and Frank Hagemann, Chief of Policy and Research at IPEC. A panel discussion followed with Enoch T Mensah, Ghanas Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, Dagoberto Lima Godoy, spokesman for the Employers Group at the 100th International Labour Conference and N.M. Adyantha, spokesman for the Workers Group at the 100th International Labour Conference. Schoolchildren from Geneva gathered in front of the United Nations Geneva headquarters to celebrate global efforts to end child labour.

    In Namibia the government has found an innovative way to deliver its universal pension scheme to elderly people living in remote rural areas: a public private partnership that has seen pension money distributed using vehicles equipped with cash machines and a biometric recognition system. Nearly all elderly people over the age of 60 are now able to access their pension payment; money which is going a long way to alleviate poverty in Namibia.
