ILO in Action: Prospects for responding to forced displacement in Lebanon

ILO Chief Technical Advisor, Shaza Al Jondi, speaks from Lebanon about the Partnership for improving prospects for forcibly displaced persons and host communities (PROSPECTS), which aims to help forcibly displaced persons and their host communities tackle the challenges caused by displacement. Together with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Bank, the project will run until 2023.

ILO in Action: Our objective is to improve the job prospects of young people

ILO Chief Technical Advisor, David Andrevon, speaks from Tunis about the ACJEMP project, which is improving the access of youth to the job market through coaching and training. The project is funded by the French Development Agency and aims to support 20,000 young women and men in Tunisia by 2023.

In an edited volume, scholars and practitioners from various disciplines and backgrounds reflect on the most appropriate interventions to create a more inclusive labour market for all. Senior Programme Officer in Turkey, Nejat Kocabay, explains how four ILO projects are helping to eliminate the worst forms of child labour in seasonal agriculture in Turkey, including hazelnut harvesting. The projects, targeting seasonal agricultural workers, are being implemented in collaboration with the EU, Dutch and Turkish governments, Ferrero and CAOBISCO – The Association of Chocolate, Biscuit and Confectionery Industries of Europe.

Uzbekistan is the sixth largest producer of cotton in the world. Two million people pick the cotton every harvest. The ILO is working with the government, workers, employers and civic society to bring about an end to child labour and forced labour during the harvest.

A boost to skills training in Bangladesh

Two million people join Bangladesh’s workforce every year. It is vital that workers can learn the skills that respond to the needs of the labour market. ILO technical specialist, Ligaya Dumaoang, introduces the Skills 21 project, a joint initiative of the Government of Bangladesh and the ILO, funded by the European Union. The project seeks to increase productivity and employment opportunities by strengthening the country’s skills development system.
