The focus of his work has been on labour relations, organization and workplace change, governance, and human resource management. In 2012, he joined the International Labour Organization (ILO) as the Deputy Director-General for Management and Reform.
Though this is not his first involvement with the organization as prior to his appointment, Greg Vines was Minister with the Australian Permanent Mission and President of the Governing Body of the ILO in Geneva.
He was also coordinator for the ILO member states from the Asia and Pacific region and represented Australia at other multilateral forums on labour and employment issues.
Over his 30-year career, Greg Vines has held a number of senior appointments with Australian and Timor Leste Governments, and leadership positions with Australian trade unions. Mr. Vines is admitted to practice law and has studied law, management and labour relations in Australia and the USA.
