Indigenous Peoples in the World of Work in Asia

To mark the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, the Gender, Equality and Diversity Branch (GED) invites you to a discussion on “Indigenous Peoples in the World of Work in Asia”

The interactive discussion will touch on challenges faced by indigenous peoples in the world of work focusing on the experience of Asian countries. The presentations will showcase relevant data as well as good practices, and highlight why it is important to consider indigenous peoples’ issues when tackling poverty and inequality. Speakers include:

- Rishabh Dhir (GED), who will present findings from his forthcoming research on the issue;
- Alexius Chicham (ILO-Dhaka), who will provide an update on the work of the ILO regarding indigenous peoples in Bangladesh;
- Joan Carling (Indigenous expert-member of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and Secretary-General of Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact), who will share her experiences and perspectives on this theme.
