ILO celebrates International Women's Day
The year 2011 marks the centenary of International Women’s Day, and the theme of the ILO’s celebrations is: "Making the crisis recovery work for women!" as we will endeavour to show the importance of including women in recovery policies after the financial crisis.
“Making the crisis recovery work for women!”
Recovery measures should seek innovative ways to create decent work to ensure that women – alongside men – have equal access to better education, re-skilling and training leading to jobs. Women should have equal chances for careers in science and technology as men, as new jobs emerge and old jobs recover.
This year, the International Women’s Day in ILO will be celebrated on Monday 7 March, not 8 March, which is the official date of the day. The event will consist of a high-level panel debate from 12:30 to 14:30 at ILO headquarters. Opened to the public, this event is also part of a one-week programme of activities organized by UN agencies to commemorate the 100 anniversary of International Women’s Day.
