Rwanda: Youth Labour Markets and the School-to-Work Transition

This brief analyses the nature and duration of the school-to-work transition in Rwanda and compares it with other Sub-Saharan countries as well as reviewing the country’s youth employment policy.

The COVID-19 pandemic is adding further obstacles to the already challenging situation facing young people seeking to enter the world of work throughout the world. This brief provides an overview of youth labour market issues in Rwanda; a country which has thusfar managed to limit the diffusion of the virus. Using the ILO’s YOUTHSTAT database, the brief specifically analyses youth transitions to the labour market in the country as well as reviewing Rwanda’s existing youth employment policy initiatives.
