Growth, employment, poverty and policies in Ethiopia : an empirical investigation

Reviews trends in economic performance and poverty during the 1980s and 1990s and analyses the linkages between economic growth, employment and poverty. Describes a method for modelling the determinants of poverty and provides an estimation using data from the Ethiopian Rural and Urban Household Survey conducted in 1999-2000. Demonstrates the effects that various government policies can have on consumption and poverty levels.
