Employment route to poverty reduction in Bangladesh : role of self-employment and wage employment

Based mainly on the Bangladesh Labour Force Survey, 1999-2000. Examines the determinants of employment and earnings of poor and non-poor households, focusing on the choice of type of employment (wage-employment or self-employment). Investigates why the poor are unable to enter more remunerative self-employment and explores how education and skill development can enable them to become better integrated into the growing economy. Proposes employment and labour market policies for poverty reduction.
