Based on studies carried out in two districts of India, one prone to drought and one to flooding. Examines the coping mechanisms of tribal people in the face of natural disasters and investigates their traditional early warning systems and those provided by the government. Makes recommendations for mitigating the impact of natural disasters based on restoring the natural resource base and providing timely and effective relief and rehabilitation during disaster.
