ProAgro: Promotion of Decent Work in Agribusiness
ProAgro aims to contribute to the creation of more and better jobs in the agribusiness sector. Its approach is based on two principles: it will both “push” people into the labour market, by providing them with the skills needed to access employment or start their business, and “pull” them, by supporting enterprise and value chain development so that the private sector can grow and provide more and better jobs. Key factors for ensuring the success of the “pull” and “push” approaches are a conducive policy environment and economic ecosystem, one that ensures that investment is linked to more and better jobs, and that employment services are effective in matching workers who are being “pushed” into the labour market with enterprises that are looking to “pull” in new talent.
The project is designed under the framework of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (BMZ) Special Initiative on Training and Job Creation. It will be implemented in Ethiopia and Morocco.
