Rapid Market Assessment – Myanmar

Sowing the Seeds for Inclusive Growth in Myanmar’s Horticulture Sector

A Comparative Analysis of the Ginger and Avocado Markets in Southern Shan State

Short description

This research was commissioned as part of the ILO’s support to the SECO – UN Cluster on Trade and Productive Capacity project, which aims to enhance horticultural productivity and improve tourism development, management and promotion in the Inle Lake region of Shan State, Myanmar.

The report provides a comparative analysis of the ginger and avocado markets in southern Shan, according to their potential opportunity for promoting inclusive market growth through small and medium enterprise (SME) development, income generation and employment creation. As a result, the report serves to help the project team in determining where to prioritise resources. Given the project’s dual focus on horticulture and tourism, the assessment also takes into account the potential linkages between the two sub-sectors and tourism.
