Value chain analysis in Peru's quinoa sector

Delving into the quinoa value chain of Peru to generate more income for smallholder farmers

Short Description

The Joint Programme "Economic Inclusion and Sustainable Development for quinoa producers in rural areas of extreme poverty in Ayacucho and Puno" (JP-Andean Grains) aims to strengthen local actors and build social and institutional networks with a program that promotes productive linkages in the quinoa value chain, increases productivity and consumption of Andean grains, promotes public-private partnerships and knowledge management, striving for a sustainable strategy for decent work promotion, increased income and food security, and gender equity between men and women producers in Peru.  

The project began by conducting a value chain analysis in the quinoa sector to uncover the underlying constraints in the market system, as well as offer potential solutions to address them.

This report includes a description of the process, research tools us, the approach to data collection and analysis, relevant results (for the value chain overall and with respect to each region). The report also includes recommendations for possible improvements to the JP-Andean Grains's interventions, as well as the programme's design of its activities, products, goals).
