A factory in China, Chongqing Jianghua Rubber and plastic manufacturing Company Limited was able to make very substantial improvement in the work process that not only boosted productivity but also greatly improved work safety.

Chongqing Jianghua Rubber and Plastic Manufacturing Company Limited was able to make very substantial improvements in their work processes that not only boosted productivity but also greatly improved work safety.

In the first picture below, we see the cross cut saw that was used in the production process to trim the plastic moulding before training. Under the old process, workers used this tool on the production line to trim all of the parts. This process was slow and unsafe.

Following the SCORE Workplace Cooperation training approach, after SCORE Training the workers presented a suggestion to management to modify the production process. Management approved the suggestion and a new process was instituted along with a new cutting machine that is safer and much more productive. This is shown in the After picture below.

Before and After Photos of Process Improvement.

Before

 After

Before the improvement suggestion (made by the employees) was implemented, each part was trimmed manually on this cross cut saw. The process was slow, and prone to variance. It was also not very safe. After, the new machine (designed by the employees based on their research and built in the shop) allows for a standard cut that is consistent and accurate. The machine will not function unless the operator has both hands on the two green buttons. It is very safe and substantially increases productivity on this operation.
