Country support for strengthening national capacity in the area of LMIA

Technical support to countries in building their LMIA systems, both through specific interventions and through more comprehensive approaches including dedicated projects or project components.

Formulation, monitoring and evaluation of national decent work policies should be based on timely, accurate and up-to-date labour market information and analysis (LMIA), which can be generated through LMIA systems. LMIA systems consist of three main elements: (1) collection and compilation of data and information; (2) analytical capacity and tools; and (3) institutional arrangements and networks. The Employment Trends Team supports countries in building their LMIA systems, both through specific interventions such as support for data collection or the development of special purpose analytical tools, and through more comprehensive approaches including dedicated projects or project components. For example, a project to improve the LMIA system in Pakistan that was completed in 2009 included activities to support all three elements. Other countries in which the Team currently supports LMIA activities include: Afghanistan, Egypt, Lesotho, Liberia, Malaysia, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, Ukraine and Viet Nam.
