    The Occupational Safety and Health Administration hereby publishes a new standard for occupational exposure to cadmium, applicable to general industry and the agriculture and maritime sectors. A separate standard regulation exposure to cadmium in the construction industry was also developed because the differences in job duration, exposure and worksite conditions warrant unique treatment. The basis of this regulation is a determination by the Assistant Secretary that employees exposed to cadmium face significant risk to their health from lung cancer and serious kidney damages at the current permissible exposure limits and that promulgating this standard will substantially reduce that risk.

    On June 1, 1992, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration published a notice (57 FR 23060) adminstratively staying, until August 26, 1992, four provisions of the standard for Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals (29 CFR 1910.119). The OSHA decided that the original compliance dates are feasible and an extended administrative stay of paragraphs (f), (h), (j), and (l) of 29 CFR 1910.119 is neither necessary nor appropriate.

The standards apply to all industries covered by the Occupational Safety and Health Act including general industry, contruction, and maritime.
