    Magistrate's Courts (Amendment) Act, 1990 (No. 6)

    Amends the Magistrates' Courts Act, 1970 so as to increase the jurisdiction of Chief Magistrates and Magistrates Grade 1, to abolish the procedure of preliminary proceedings in criminal trials and to render certain serious offences, such as rape and the issuing of false cheques, bailable only by the High Court.

    Trial on Indictments (Amendment) Statute, 1990 (No. 5)

    Amends the Trial on Indictments Decree 1971, so as to minimise the period of remand preceding the trial by the High Court of an accused person, to require that an accused person is provided with a summary of the prosecution case and sufficient notice prior to trial and to regulate the grant of bail for serious offences such as rape, defilement and the issuing of false cheques.

    Makes various amendments to the penal code including the prohibition of all persons, including public officials, from issuing false cheques. Sets penalties for offences.

    Commission of Inquiry into Violation of Human Rights (Legal Notice No. 5 of 1986)

    Establishes the Commission, which is to inquire into all aspect of violation of human rights and related practices committed against persons in Uganda by the regimes in power during the period from 9 Oct. 1962 to 25 Jan. 1986 and to recommend possible ways of preventing a recurrence.
