    Under the Employment Act 1990, these Regulations modify the Conditions of Employment Regulations 1991, changing "paid maternity leave" in Reg.16(1) to "unpaid maternity leave," and substituting "1 1/2 hours pay" for "1 hours' pay" wherever it occurs in Reg.6(2).

    This Act (LLD 1991/1, 1990-SYC 1) is basically an amended version of the Employment Act 1985 (LS. 1985-Sey.1). Like the 1985 Act, it is divided into 13 parts, respectively covering definitions and applicability; registration of employers, workers and unemployed persons; recruitment for employment; contracts of employment; trainees and young workers; protection and regulation of wages and conditions of employment; protection of employment; termination of contracts; miscellaneous provisions; administration; offences, penalties and prosecutions; and repeals. Six schedules cover negotiation and grievance procedures; general provisions applicable to Parts I and II; vacancy filling procedures; disciplinary offences and measures; Industrial Relations Advisory Board; National Manpower Development Board; and Outer Islands. The new Act restricts court jurisdiction to matters it does not provide for and introduces other changes, including stricter requirements concerning vacancy-filling procedures and the use of fixed-term contracts of employment, closer supervision of contracting, a 21-day monthly limit on casual employment (instead of 14 days under the 1985 Act), a new definition of the term "young workers", etc. The Employment Act 1985 and Sections 46, 47, 53 to 56 and 66 to 68 of the Outlying Island (Employment of Servants) Act are repealed. The Act came into operation on 16 november 1990 in accordance with para 2. of the Employment Act, 1990 (Commencement) Notice, 1990.

    Amends the Occupational Safety and Health Decree 1978. Part II entitled "Duties", providing for, inter alia, general duties of employers to employees, of employers and self-employed persons to persons other than employees, and duties concerning premises and of employees at work, is amended. Amends Part IV entitled "Officials and Health and Safety Representatives" providing for the responsibility of a Director for administration of the Decree and for the election or appointment of health and safety representatives to monitor and report safety and health problems. A new Part VI on obtaining and disclosing information replaces Part VI of the principal Decree. Amends Part VIII of the principal Decree providing for penalties. Form entitled "Details Required of Accident at Work" is contained in a Schedule.

    An Act to revise and consolidate the law relating to social security; to repeal the Social Security Decree 1979; and for connected purposes. This Act revises and consolidates the law relating to social security; it repeals the Social Security Decree 1979. Definitions are contained in Part I, and the persons who are liable to pay contributions or entitled to benefits are indicated in Part II. Part III sets forth the description of benefits provided (sickness, maternity, employment injury, invalidity, disablement, survivor's, funeral, dependent's, orphan's and abandoned child's benefits, as well as retirement pensions) and the conditions for receiving them. Parts IV to VIII deal respectively with the determination of claims, administration and finance, collection and recovery, offences and penalties, and miscellaneous. The Act provides for the establishment of the Social Security Fund, which is subject to inspection (ss. 26-29), and a medical board (s. 30 and attached Schedule).

    This Act provides for establishment of co-operatives as bodies corporate by order of the Minister. It sets forth the criteria for membership in a co-operative (s. 4) and lists the assets it may hold (s. 5). Part II of the Act governs co-operatives' management committees. A Co-operative Fund, which may grant loans to co-operatives, is established under Part III. The Act also contains provisions on the rights of survivors of deceased members, removal of members, the settlement of disputes and dissolution of co-operatives. The Co-operatives Societies Act (Cap. 230) is repealed. Effective date: 1 Feb. 1988.

Also regulates management of the Fund as well as some related matters.
