    Comprehensive regulations on processing of personal data. Made under Act No. 31 of 14 April 2000.

    Divided into 10 chapters. Chapter 1 (s. 1.1-1.5) regulates scope of personal data act. Chapter 2 (s. 2.1-2.16) provides for data security. Chapter 3 (s. 3.1-3.2) regulates internal controls. Chapter 4 (s. 4.1-4.7) deals with credit information services. Chapter 5 (s. 5.1-5.4) makes provision for central marketing exclusion register. Chapter 6 (s. 6.1-6.3) regulates tansfer of personal data to other countries. Chapter 7 (s. 7.1-7.27) provides for obligation to give notification and obtain licence. Chapter 8 (s. 8.1-8.5) regulates video surveillance. Chapter 9 (s. 9.1-9.3) contains miscellaneous and Chapter 10 (s. 10.1-10.5) concluding provisions.

    Contains six sections whereby the following international human rights instruments are given force of national law to the extent that they are considered as binding on Norway: the European Council's Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, its Protocol of November 1950, its Protocols Nos. 4 (securing certain other rights and freedoms), 6 (abolition of death penalty), and 7 (furthering certain human rights and freedoms); the United Nations' International Covenants on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and on Civil and Political Rights, and the two optional Protocols to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Contains the English and Norwegian versions of these instruments as annexes. Unofficial translation available in English.
