    The Regulations revoke and replace S.I. No. 1 of 1997 - the Protection of Young Persons (Employment) (Exclusion of Workers in the Fishing or Shipping Sectors) Regulations 1997. The 1997 Regulations had permitted certain exemptions for young persons (i.e. 16 and 17-year olds) in both the Fishing and Shipping sectors from certain working hours rules and night-time working rules contained in the Protection of Young Persons (Employment) Act 1996 . The new Regulations continue most of the exemptions contained in the 1997 Regulations but do not continue the exemption from the rules on night time working for young persons in the shipping sector. Separate provisions in relation to exemptions from night-time working rules for young persons in the shipping sector, where training programmes are involved, are contained in S.I. No. 245 of 2014 made by the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport in line with the ILO Maritime Labour Convention 2006.

    Amends Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998. Establishes that nothing in this Act prevents possession, distribution, printing, publication or showing by either House of the Oireachtas, a committee or any person of child pornography for the purposes of, or in connection with, performance of any function conferred by Constitution or by law on those Houses or conferred by a resolution of either of those Houses or resolutions of both of them on a committee.

    Provides for the establishment of an ombudsman for children. Their function is to promote the rights and welfare of children and investigate complaints.

Part III provides for youth work development plans, programmes and services. Part IV regulates activities of youth work officers and organisations, national youth work advisory committees, youth work committees, and voluntary youth councils. Part V deals with financial matters. Repeals Youth Work Act 1997.

    Concerns young persons (16 and 17 years old) employed to carry out general duties in licensed premises. Provides that young persons may be required to work up to 11 p.m. in such premises per day, which is not a day immediately preceding a school day. Also establishes that, in such circumstances, the young person may not commence work before 7 a.m. on the following day. Schedule contains Code of Practice concerning employment of young persons in licensed premises.

    Protection of Young Persons (Employment) Act 1996 (Bar Apprentices) Regulations, 2002 (S.I. No. 351 of 2001). - Legislation on-line

    Provides that a young person (16 or 17 years old), employed as apprentice in a full-time capacity in a licensed premises (as defined), may be required to work up to midnight on any one day and not before 8 a.m. on the following day provided that the young person is supervised by an adult.

    Comprehensive legislation on protection, care and control of children. Part 2 provides for family welfare conferences, and Part 3 for diversion programme, the obective of which is to divert children from committing offences. Part 5 regulates criminal responsibility of children; Part 6 treatment of child suspects in Garda Siochana Stations. Parts 7-9 deal with proceedings and powers of courts in relation to child offenders, including detention and imposition of sanctions. Part 10 makes provision for Children Detention Schools, Part 11 for Special Residential Services Board, and Part 12 for protection of children. Replaces the Children Act 1908 and other acts relating to juvenile offenders, and amends the Child Care Act 1991.

    Gives effect to the 1996 Convention on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition, enforcement and cooperation in respect of parental responsibility and measures for the protection of children. Amends sections 14 and 30 of the 1991 Child Abduction and Enforcement of Custody Orders Act, and provides for related matters.

    The purpose of these Regulations is to implement the health and safety aspects of Council Directive 94/33/EC on the protection of young people at work. The other requirements of this Directive have been implemented by the Protection of Young Persons (Employment) Act, 1996.

    Prohibits the production, distribution, and possession of child pornography, and the trafficking of children for sexual purposes. Child pornography, as defined in s. 2, shall include computer-generated prohibited representations of children.

    Sets forth definitions of and penalties for non-fatal attacks, including threats, assaults with syringes, harassment, and kidnapping. Section 24 abolishes the common law rule which provides teachers immunity from criminal proceedings for punishing pupils.

    Gives effect to Council Directive No. 94/33/EC of 22 June 1994. Generally prohibits the employment of children under 16 years of age. Children 14 or older may be employed under certain conditions, provided that, inter alia, such employees are provided minimum rest, employers obtain permission from the parents, and employers maintain obligatory records.
