    AN ACT to provide for pension reform in the country by the introduction of a contributory three-tier pension scheme; the establishment of a National Pensions Regulatory Authority to oversee the administration and management of registered pension schemes and trustees of registered schemes, the establishment of a Social Security and National Insurance Trust to manage the basic national social security scheme to cater for the first tier of the contributory three-tier scheme, and to provide for related matters.

    Repeals the following:
    (a) Social Security Act, 1991 (P.N.D.C.L. 247);
    (b) Long-Term Savings Act, 2004 (Act 679).

    Provides for a new pension scheme to replace the Provident Fund Scheme introduced in 1965. Establishes the Social Security and National Insurance Trust. Composed of 10 Parts and 46 sections, which concern the board of directors of the Trust, its management and staff, financial matters, employers and workers to whom the law applies, contributions, legal proceedings, and benefits and qualifying conditions. Repeals the Social Security Decree (No. 127 of 1972).

    This instrument, issued pursuant to s. 36(3) of the Workmen's Compensation Law 1987 [LS 1987-Ghana 1], provides the manner in which compensation to be paid to an injured workman shall be calculated.

    This Act recasts the law in relation to compensation awarded to workers for personal injuries arising out of and in the course of their employment. It governs, inter alia, the employer's liability in such cases, the distribution of compensation in the event of the worker's death (including a related schedule), degrees of partial incapacity set forth in a schedule, determination of claims, remedies against the employer and third parties, protection of compensation against attachment or assignment, payment of medical expenses and provision of medical aid, and occupational diseases (with 13 such diseases listed in an attached schedule). The new enactment grew out of a study undertaken by the Tripartite National Advisory Committee on Labour. It repeals the Workmen's Compensation Act 1963 (No. 174) and the 1966, 1968 and 1969 amendments thereto. Statutory Instruments made under those Acts remain in force until amended, varied or revoked in accordance with the provisions of the new law.
