The Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessels (Health and Safety at Work) (Employment of Young Persons) Regulations 1998. (S.I. 1998 No. 2411). - Adoption: 1998-09-24 | GBR-1998-R-71419 Gives effect to the Council Directive 94/33/EC on the protection of young people at work and in part to the Merchant Shipping (Minimum Standards) Convention, 1976 (No. 147). Defines young persons as those under 18 years but over the compulsory leaving age. The employer is to take appropriate measures to protect young persons at work including making an assessment of the risks to their health and safety. They are to inform young workers of hazards and ensure that they are not engaged in certain specified work.
