    These Regulations amend the Pneumoconiosis etc. (Workers' Compensation) (Payment of Claims) Regulations 1988 (S.I. 1988/668) so as to increase the amounts payable under the Act. The increase in each case is 3.6% rounded up or down to the nearest £1 as appropriate.
    The diseases to which the Act applies are pneumoconiosis, byssinosis, diffuse mesothelioma, primary carcinoma of the lung (where accompanied by asbestosis or diffuse pleural thickening) and diffuse pleural thickening.

With the consequential changes are incorporated improved measures for the payment of an allowance to the terminally ill and for persons receiving home dialysis.

A consequential amendment is made in relation to the entitlement to statutory sick pay of women between the ages of 60 and 65.

    This Order is made only for purposes corresponding to those of the Statutory Sick Pay Act 1991. It amends the law relating to the arrangements under which employers are reimbursed for the statutory sick pay which they pay to their employees. Article 3(1) reduces from 100 per cent to 80 percent the amounts of statutory sick pay which employers can recover from their remittances of national insurance contributions and Article 4 provides for relief for small employers.
