    Comprehensive legislation on trade unions and employers' organisations. Part II provides for basic rights of employees and employers, protection of employees from discrimination by employer, protection of trade union from employer's interference, voluntary nature of membership of trade unions and employers organisations, and for federations. Part III deals with registration and constitution of trade unions and employers' organisations, annual returns, legal status of trade unions and employers' organisations, amalgamation of trade unions, and defunct trade unions and employers' organisations. Part IV sets forth provisions safeguarding the interests of members of trade unions and employers' organisations. Finally, Part V and VI make provision for recognition of collective bargaining rights as well as for collective bargaining agreements.

    Repeals the Settlement of Disputes in Essential Services (Extension) Order, 1994, which had applied the Settlement of Disputes in Essential Services Act to the revenue services of the government.

These include: (1) services in which petroleum products are sold, supplied, transported, conveyed, handled, loaded, unloaded or stored; (2) Belize National Fire Service; (3) postal services; (4) monetary and financial services; (5) airports; (6) port authority; and (7) social security scheme administered by Social Security Board.

    Settlement of Disputes (Essential Services) Act (Cap. 298). - Legislation on-line

    Applies to trade disputes in any of those services rendered by whomsoever to the public which are listed in Schedule of Act. Regulates constitution of Arbitration Tribunal, as well as resolution of trade disputes. Any party to dispute may report dispute to Minister. If Minister does not resolve dispute himself, he may refer it to Tribunal. Also provides for prohibition of lock-outs and strikes: employer shall not declare or take part in lock-out and worker shall not take part in strike in connection with any trade dispute, unless dispute has been reported to Minister in accodance with provisions of this Act and a period of 21 days has elapsed since the date of the report and the dispute has not during that time been referred by Minister for settlement in accordance with this Act.

    Governs the registration of trade unions. Establishes procedures on applications for registration and information to be provided with such applications. Regulates the alteration or rescission of the rules of a trade union and for the change of a trade union's name. Regulates the withdrawal or cancellation of certificates of registration. Establishes registration and related fees. The Schedule contains forms for use in carrying out the act.

Inter alia makes provison for the following matters: unlawful objects of trade union, registration of trade unions, purchase and lease of land by trade unions, trustees in whom poperty of trade union is vested, absence or disability of trustees, actions by or against trustees, limitation of responsibility of trustees, withholding or misapplying trade union effects, registered office of trade union, withdrawal or cancellation of certificate of registration, membership of minors, member's nomination of payee, change of trade union's name, amalgamation of trade unions, dissolution of trade unions, and several related matters.

    Deals with certain aspects of labour disputes. Inter alia provides for reporting of labour disputes to Minister, vacancies on Arbitration Tribunal, inquiry into labour dispute and industrial conditions by Board of Inquiry, and some related matters.
