Résumé/Citation: Amends and extends Maternity Protection Act 1994, amends Redundancy Payments Act 1967 and Unfair Dismissals Act 1977, revokes in part and enacts in respect of certain proceedings European Communities (Burden of Proof in Gender Discrimination Cases) Regulations 2001, which gave effect to Council Directive 97/80/EC of 15 December 1997 on Burden of Proof in Cases of Discrimination Based on Sex. Inter alia provides for minimum period of maternity leave, additional maternity leave, postponement of maternity leave in the event of hospitalisation of child, entitlement to time off from work to attend ante-natal classes, termination of leave in the event of sickness of father, as well as some related matters.
