Second Region

Replaces Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations, 1995 to give further effect to EEC Council Directive 92/57/EEC on minimum safety and health requirements at temporary or mobile construction sites. Contains new provisions for mandatory safety training and safety representation, and provides for more effective arrangements in ensuring availability of adequate welfare facilities. Prescribes main requirements for protection of safety, health and welfare of persons working on construction sites. Applies to all construction projects as well as to maintenance of buildings. Places obligations on clients and designers to ensure health and safety is taken into account before construction work begins. Contractors shall ensure that work on site is properly coordinated and carried out in a safe manner.
