Abstract/Citation
Comprehensive legislation on protection, care and control of children. Part 2 provides for family welfare conferences, and Part 3 for diversion programme, the obective of which is to divert children from committing offences. Part 5 regulates criminal responsibility of children; Part 6 treatment of child suspects in Garda Siochana Stations. Parts 7-9 deal with proceedings and powers of courts in relation to child offenders, including detention and imposition of sanctions. Part 10 makes provision for Children Detention Schools, Part 11 for Special Residential Services Board, and Part 12 for protection of children. Replaces the Children Act 1908 and other acts relating to juvenile offenders, and amends the Child Care Act 1991.
