Abstract/Citation
Includes amendments of 1979, 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1994. Provides for conditions of entry, residence and exit. Chapter IV (sections 18 to 24) deals with the rights and obligations of foreigners with respect to, inter alia, work. Permanent residents are entitled to enter into an employment relationship in accordance with the laws applicable to nationals. Temporary residents who possess a work permit can work only within the region, with the employer and for the work specified in the permit. Foreigners employed in the territory shall have the same rights as nationals with regard to "labour legal matters", contracts of employment, social security and taxation, unless otherwise stipulated by international agreements with other States. Section 37a provides for fines to be paid by employers of foreigners without work permits. English translation available.
